“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
— James Clear
I remember sitting in a meeting once where we had just set some really big goals.

The kind that sounds good on paper.
The kind everyone nods their head to.
The kind that feels right in the moment.

We talked about growth.
We talked about outcomes.
We talked about where we wanted to be by the end of the year.

And then the meeting ended.

The next day, I walked through the classrooms.
Nothing looked bad.
Teachers were working hard.
Students were engaged.

But it also didn’t look any different.

And that’s when it hit me.

We had set the goal…
But we hadn’t changed the system.
Because the truth is, schools don’t drift toward excellence.

They drift toward whatever is repeated every single day.

The same lessons.
The same expectations.
The same level of questioning.
The same routines.

And over time, those small, repeated actions tell you exactly where you’re going to end up.
That’s why the work I do now is centered around helping schools build systems.
Not just ideas.
Not just goals.
Systems.

Because this is a critical piece that must be developed in every school if results are going to change in a lasting way.

So now, when I hear big goals, I think about something different.
Not the end of the year.
But the next day.

Because that’s where the real work is.

And that’s where everything starts to change.

I’m so excited to share this… Two incredible I’m so excited to share this…

Two incredible leaders have officially signed their publishing contracts, and their book Going Beyond the Data is coming this fall.

Please help me celebrate Ashley Zucosky and Caroline Eaves.

This work is so needed right now. In a time when schools are surrounded by numbers, dashboards, and reports, Ashley and Caroline are pushing us to think deeper. To move beyond the data and into the decisions, actions, and leadership that actually change student outcomes.

They bring real experience, real clarity, and a message that every school needs to hear.

This is more than a book. It’s a shift in how we think about impact.

I cannot wait to share more of their story and give you a closer look at what’s coming.

Follow along at @thegrowthcollectiveapp for updates and behind-the-scenes as we get closer to launch.

Fall release is on the way… and this one is going to matter.
Most schools don’t have a student problem. They Most schools don’t have a student problem.
They have a system problem.

I was looking at this today and it’s such a clear reminder…

If we want different results for students, we can’t keep doing disconnected things and hoping they work.

We have to build a system.

A system where:
We actually know what students need
We respond quickly when they don’t get it
We protect time to do something about it

That’s what WIN Time does.

It takes what we already know matters and organizes it into something that actually works every single day.

Because here’s the truth…

When instruction is aligned to student needs,
when we respond faster to gaps,
and when we use time with intention…

Student achievement improves. Across all groups.

Not by chance.
Not by luck.
By design.

So the question isn’t “Do we have intervention?”

The question is…
Do we have a system that guarantees every student gets what they need, when they need it? @wintimesoftware
The most powerful persuasion skill in leadership… is knowing when not to give the answer.

I was watching something the other day that stuck with me. It talked about how the brain is wired to connect dots. You give someone two pieces of information and without even realizing it, they start building the bridge between them. And when that moment happens, when it clicks, it feels like their idea.

And here’s the truth about leadership…
People rarely resist their own ideas.

But they will resist yours.
Not because they are difficult. Not because they don’t care.
But because being told what to do shuts down ownership.

Let me give you a real example.

You walk into a PLC and say,
“We need to start using exit tickets every day so we can respond to student needs immediately.”

It’s a good idea. A strong one.
But you can feel it… the quiet resistance.

Now try this instead.

You ask,
“How do we know, at the end of the lesson, who actually got it and who didn’t?”

Silence for a second. Then someone says,
“Well… we could check before they leave.”

You follow with,
“What would that look like if we did it consistently?”

And just like that…
“They” say it.
“An exit ticket.”

Same idea. Completely different outcome.

That’s the shift.

Great leaders don’t just give answers.
They create moments where others discover them.

Because when people put the pieces together themselves,
they don’t push back…
they lean in.

There is something powerful about educators who ch There is something powerful about educators who choose to lean into the future instead of fear it.

I want to introduce you to a new author you will want to keep your eye on. Dr. Drew Hinds.

Dr. Hinds is an assistant principal in California and a true student-first leader. Over the years, he has served education in many roles, including teacher, school principal, secondary CTE instructor, program coordinator, technology director, and even as a college instructor. That wide range of experience gives him a unique lens on where education is headed and what leaders need to do next.

And that is exactly why his upcoming book is so timely.
His new book, releasing this summer, is a strategic playbook for navigating the AI revolution in education. But this is not a book about replacing people with technology. It is about something much more important.

It's about how we ensure technology becomes a lever that expands human potential?

In a time when many leaders are asking
What does AI mean for schools?
How should we respond?
How do we prepare students for a future we cannot fully see yet?

Dr. Hinds is stepping forward with thoughtful ideas and practical leadership guidance.

I am excited to help support his journey as a new author and to bring voices like his into the conversation about the future of education.

If you are a school leader thinking about innovation, technology, and the responsibility we carry for the next generation, this will be a book you will want on your shelf.

Stay tuned. This one is coming this summer. Follow Drew on all social media @drewhinds
